Manufacturing Resource Planning System
 

  
The project involved working out a total computerization plan for the watch dial manufacturing company. As a part of this computerization plan, a Manufacturing Resource Planning System (MRP) was designed and implemented. This system provides a tool for performing all day-to-day operational activities and also to control and monitor the production process.

The system has modules for the following functions:

Purchase
This module performs the functions of purchasing that include planning, purchase authorization, purchase ordering, material requirement analysis, pending purchase order analysis, vendor-rating analysis.

Stores
This module performs the task of materials management that includes maintenance of inventory records of raw materials and finished products, stock ledgers and statements, invoicing, dispatch of finished goods.

Quality
This module concerns itself with the quality certification of raw materials, in-process and finished products. It also detailed technical specification for different raw materials, in-process and finished goods.

Production
This module performs the functions of production planning and series tracking.

Marketing
This module performs customer order processing, order tracking and generates sales forecast for production.

The tools/platforms used for the MRP system are as follows:

  • PowerBuilder as Front-end running on Win 95/98 platform and Oracle as database running on a NT server.
    The design is based on Client-Server architecture.
