The project involved working out a total computerization plan for the industrial valve manufacturing company. As a part of this computerization plan, a Manufacturing Resource Planning System (MRP) was designed and is currently being implemented. This system provides a tool for performing all day-to-day operational activities and also to control and monitor the production process.

The following modules of the system are currently implemented:

Excise :
This module performs the task of maintaining statutory reports and other information for Central Excise Department.

Accounts :
This module is meant for planning and maintenance of records for finance related activities, day books, ledgers, balance sheet and cost analysis.

Personnel :
This module is meant for maintenance of records of employees and personnel profile and payroll processing.

Marketing :
This module performs customer order processing, preparation of product design specifications. The module also provides sales forecasts and sales plan.

The other modules currently under implementation are for Stores, Production and Planning, Quality Assurance, Engineering, Time Office and HRD.

The tools/platforms used for the MRP system are as follows:

• Visual Basic as Front-end running on Win 95/98 platform and Oracle as database running on a Windows NT server. The design is based on Client-Server architecture. Crystal Reports is used for report generation.
