Project:
Manufacturing Resource Planning System (MANAS)
 

  
The project involved working out a total computerization plan for the pharmaceutical company. As a part of this computerization plan, a Manufacturing Resource Planning System (MRP), named as MANAS was designed and implemented. This system provides a tool for performing all day-to-day operational activities and also to control and monitor the production process.

The system has modules for the following functions:

Purchase :
This module performs the functions of purchasing that include planning, purchase authorization, purchase ordering, material requirement analysis, pending purchase order analysis, vendor-rating analysis.

Stores :
This module performs the task of materials management that includes maintenance of inventory records of raw materials and finished products, stock ledgers and statements, branch transfers and invoicing.

Excise :
This module performs the task of maintaining statutory reports and other information for Central Excise Department.

Quality :
This module concerns itself with the quality certification of raw materials and finished products. It also maintains the set formulation for producing different finished products and detailed technical specification for different raw materials.

Production :
This module performs the functions of production planning and actual production and generates daily production statement, production monitoring report, raw material consumption statement, stock statement of semi-finished goods held in plant.

Exports :
This module is essentially meant for marketing products and performs the functions of export planning, export order processing and monitoring, statutory export documentation, introduction letters.

Accounts :
This module is meant for planning and maintenance of records for finance related activities, day books, ledgers, balance sheet and cost analysis.

Personnel :
This module is meant for maintenance of records of employees and planning for manpower requirements, personnel profile, payroll processing and leave management.

Engineering :
This module is meant for functions such as recording history of maintenance work on different machines at plant, health card of machines, maintenance schedule of machines, cost analysis of maintenance of machines, capacity assessment of spares supplied by different suppliers and work orders

Marketing & Distribution :
This module provides sales forecast for production, rolling sales plan, analysis of closing stock at warehouses and take-off of finished products.

Monitoring :
The module serves to provide an MIS for supervisory control and monitoring.

The tools/platforms used for the MRP system are as follows:

  • PowerBuilder as Front-end running on Win 95/98 platform and Oracle as database running on a Novell Netware server. The design is based on Client-Server architecture.
